"In the year 1907 some 30 pupil teachers of handicraft were brought together for training at the Shoreditch Technical Institute, London N1. This centre was recognised by the Board of Education in 1919 and became a member of the Training Colleges Delegacy of the University of London 1936(?). In the year 1938(?) the site overlooking Runnymede was acquired by the London County Council and departments of the Council were administered here from 1939 to 1946. From 1945(?) to 1951 the buildings were in use as the Cooper's Hill Emergency Training College. Shoreditch College as a constituent college of the University of London Institute of Education was transferred here in 1951"
