The following email regarding Honorary Degree Awards for Cert Ed graduates:

Hi,

I have managed to contact 5 ex Shoredich 70year students, regarding the awarding of degrees.

I am still waiting for a reply from Barry Ratcliffe and James (Jim) Meyer.

I notice from the most recent list that only 8 students have responded. Hoping you may be able to help find more.

Kind regards,

Roger Pitcher 148/ 70yr

Hi Jill.

I was given your details by Steph Nicholson @ Ditch Old Timers.

Below is my original post on Facebook which explains everything. Steph found him in the record as graduating in 1965 with his number being 5695.

As an alumni of the Brunel era of SC I’m interested in locating my old woodwork teacher who recommended the course at Brunel when I left the Royal Navy. His name was Mike Huish. He was a teacher and Head of Woodwork at Bognor Regis Comprehensive School. I’ve tried contacting the school but they have no record of his contact details. I currently live in Australia so a visit is out of the question.

Any information as to Mike’s whereabouts would be greatly appreciated.

Any assistance you can give in locating Mike would be gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance in this matter.

Kind regards

Mark Laurence.

Hi

I’m Anthony Miller I was in 77 year with John Sproule who I would really like to contact. He last lived in the Bristol area. I believe he worked in a private girls school. Hopefully retired now.

Thank you.

Hi Jill,

Just found this wonderful site.

So many blasts from the past brought back so many memories!

I was there 1972 to 1975 and would be very pleased to hear from anyone from that era! I was on the PE and art courses. A lifetime ago but some memories seem like yesterday!

Hi Jill,

I'm just scanning a couple of items from The Family Album and thought you might like a copy of 'Shoreditch Training College Final Year 1950' for your super website. It has the appearance of having been rather clumsily cropped on the left hand side and therefore I suspect there may be half a dozen folk 'missing in action'.

My father, Ronald Hurrell, is in this picture: he is 4th row up, 6 from left, and his Boys' Brigade button-hole badge can be identified. He has a pen protruding from his breast pocket.

Ron had a long and colourful career, working at Tom Hood for a spell before moving out to the wilds (in those days!) of rural Essex with his young family, where he became something of a Living Legend at the Fitzwimarc Secondary Modern School, Rayleigh.

He's still with us and remains fairly sprightly, considering his 95 years. (To his mild amusement, three of his five children are Old Age Pensioners.) I'll copy him in, on the off-chance you wish to interrogate him! There's a fair chance that he will remember some names - it's only about three-quarters of a century ago, after all.

Third row from front, 9th from left, dark moustache, folded arms, Mr. Farrell, taught at Hadleigh Junior. I remember dad telling me he was a contemporary at Shoreditch.

Best wishes,

David  Hurrell

Hi Jill,

My father, Eric Arthur Chamberlain, of St. Albans, attended Shoreditch in I believe 1949 and 1950.

I wonder if there is anyone still alive who would remember him? Or if there are any class photos.

Thank you,

Stephanie Reisler (nee Chamberlain).

Hi Jill,

I graduated from Shoreditch in 1973, so I am reaching out to any ex students around that year.

I started my teaching Career in Birmingham and moved to British Columbia, Canada in 1978.

Along the way I taught metalwork until 1986 when I retrained in Computers teaching Computer Science. Finally in 2001 moved to a Grade 4/5 Classroom teacher position just outside Vancouver, retiring from the classroom in 2011.

I now work for the First Nations Education Steering Committee based in North Vancouver giving IT support to First Nations Schools on Vancouver Island.

If there is anyone out there from 1973 drop me a line.
